This exhibition marks 40 years since the debut of the Dragon Quest role-playing game series. Its centerpiece is Dragon Quest VR Ride, an attraction in which participants dodge monsters attacking one after another in a forest; special effects send real gusts of wind across riders, producing a strong sense of soaring through open sky. Other interactive pieces include the Mirror of Ra, which shows visitors as a monster when they look into it, and the Thrilling Treasure Chest, built around the anticipation of opening a chest. Alongside these, the exhibition displays development material from Yuji Horii, the creator of the series, original character drawings by Akira Toriyama and scores for the game music composed by Koichi Sugiyama, allowing visitors to look back over four decades of the series. Taken together, the attractions and the archival material give both a hands-on experience and a documentary account of how the games were made. A large selection of exhibition-original merchandise is also on sale. Ticket prices differ between weekdays and weekends, and between advance and later sales periods; one preschool child enters free with each adult, and tickets with limited-edition bonus items are also available.
