Celebrating Mangaka Sakura Momoko
The art of Sakura Momoko, the manga artist behind the beloved series Chibi Maruko-chan and Coji-Coji, will be displayed at the Mori Art Center Gallery in Roppongi Hills.
The exhibit showcases approximately 300 color original paintings and handwritten manuscripts, the biggest display of Momoko’s work to date.
Momoko’s debut essay collection “Momono Kanzume” became a bestseller with over 2.9 million copies sold. The semi-autobiographical manga Chibi Maruko-chan began to be serialized in 1986 and an anime television series was produced in 1990. Since then, Maruko-chan’s adventures have been adapted into films, live-action dramas and an ongoing updated anime series.
A pop-up Sakura Momoko themed cafe inside the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower will also be serving specialty treats during the complete duration of the exhibit.
The Sun Cafe on the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower offers plates, drinks and desserts all decorated as Momoko’s popular characters. Dishes include the Maruko parfait, the Sakuraya pudding a la mode, Jiro’s carbonara, flying Coji-Coji galaxy soda and much more. Guests can receive an exclusive coaster with their order.
