From Summer to Fall
This exhibition explores the depictions of summer to fall within Japanese art history.
While Heian-period poetry favored spring and autumn, Edo-period art often paired summer with autumn, reflecting a growing aesthetic appreciation of summer’s vibrancy. Highlighting masterpieces by Suzuki Kiitsu and the Rimpa School’s Tawaraya Sotatsu, this show gives visitors an opportunity to revel in the transition from peak summertime energy to the mellow hues of late fall, and enjoy a stroll through the museum’s tranquil gardens afterward.
