Takeo Shrine in Saga Prefecture was founded in 735 to bring peace to the region. One of the most beautiful natural phenomenons to be found at the shrine is the ohkusu (giant camphor) tree that rests at the foot of Mt Mifuneyama.
From the shrine, pass through the nationally designated important cultural property Takeo Romon (tower gate) and head to Takeo Onsen, a historic hot spring resort with a history that dates back more than 1,300 years. Nicknamed the “onsen of beauty” because of its purported beautifying effects, it’s a popular retreat for those hoping to rejuvenate their skin as well as relax.
