Run for the Cure/Walk for Life Japan 2012
Love running?
Why not do it for a good cause, and join the Run for the Cure/Walk for Life 2012 in the hot spring village of Nozawa, Nagano prefecture.
Run for the Cure has made a name for itself in Japan, holding regular events and fundraisers to fight breast cancer. It was established in order to fund clinical examinations and mammography machines, donate funds to organizations promoting related activities, and develop and execute community outreach programs.
Luckily, survival rates are increasing as early detection rates rise, yet in Japan, few women receive mammograms, therefore detection rates aren’t rising as quickly as elsewhere in the world. Therefore, participation in activities such as Run for the Cure can significantly raise awareness amongst communities and families.
Pick the 5 km or 10 km course and keep your pace with a gorgeous mountains for a backdrop. If you aren’t such a runner but want to get involved, you can choose to walk the 2 km path instead. The organisers are offering a bus service from Tokyo to Nozawa (see details below), as well as discounted hotel stays. Don’t miss this chance to exercise for a good cause: tie up your laces and join the stride.
