Scope out the latest design trends at Tokyo Designers Week 2013, as it returns to its custom-built event venue in Meiji Jingu Gaien Park.
Whether your interests lie in architecture, interior, graphic, marketing, fashion, textile, media art, photography, illustration, or even food, you most likely will find something that will get your attention. Tokyo Designers Week (TDW) is trying to attract a broad range of visitors, from children to adults and people who do not have the opportunity to experience design and art in daily life. This year, the festival is evolving into a creative festival, combining arts and music.
In addition to a vast array of awards programs, you can view some eye-catching exhibitions, including the “Container Exhibition,” which shows creative displays of shipping containers. This one is probably the visitors’ favorite as it comes complete with projectors and interactive art. And as Halloween falls right into the midst of the festival, a special discount will be issued to those who wear a costume on certain dates, so check the website for more information. There will be a costume contest, as well as a special jazz dance class that might teach you a few moves.
Visitors are also encouraged to try their hand at different crafts, so don’t hesitate to join a variety of workshops held by art students. Also returning this year, in conjunction with TDW, Tokyo’s cherished designers night PechaKucha is presenting its own Designer Week special. Following their concept of 20 images x 20 seconds, PechaKucha (the name refers to the sounds for chit chat in Japanese) is organizing a projection in the TDW Dome, with projections that will surely create a magical atmosphere.
