Henri Riviere (1864-1951) is a painter and print artist who was strongly influenced by Japonism that became popular in the French art world towards the end of the 19th century. Fascinated by ukiyoe prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige, Riviere depicted French landscapes under the heavy influence of the ukiyoe masters. The resulting paintings and prints that capture the subtleties in nature and urban landscapes may feel somewhat nostalgic to a Japanese audience too.
