Through the haze of smoke from the churrasco grills, and perhaps misty eyed after a caiprinha or two, you’ll really know summer has started if you find yourself hanging around Yoyogi park this weekend.
The park itself actually quite often feels quieter in July and August – guess it’s only mad dogs and Englishmen who brave the heat – but the festival zone will be heaving for what promises to be one of the more ‘intoxicating’ of the summer’s events. There is a large Brazilian community in Tokyo and samba parades are not uncommon in the summer months – this event, though, is all about the on-stage musical action and, of course, the food and drink stalls.
After Thailand, Jamaica and the like celebrated in their own inimitable style (if only they could combine their efforts – Jerk Chicken with a side of Pad Thai, anyone?), Brazil takes its turn a little earlier than usual in 2012. Hot stuff.
When: July 21 and 22, 10:00 – 19:00
Where: Yoyogi Park, Gymnasium side.
