Samba dancing returns to its spiritual home – why of course, Asakusa! – this weekend with the annual (but first since 2010) Asakusa Samba Carnival.
Teams of dancers, many have come all the way from Brazil especially, wiggle their way and shake their hips along a festive parade route lined by everyone from Japanese-Brazilians to Japanese camera men; check out those zoom lenses!
Churrasco grills will be firing up, their smoke taking over from incense for the day, and the whole place will move to a slightly different drum beat – a spot of Brazilian exuberance, with a few tail feathers, is guaranteed.
When: Saturday, August 25th, 1:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Where: Asakusa (Parade is between Sensoji Temple and Tawaramachi Station)
