Art and Medicine Exhibit

The unusual notion of art mixed with medicine conjures up morbid images of blood and organs, however this exhibit at the Mori Art Center documents and explores how people have tried to understand the human body throughout the centuries. The ideas of life, death, beauty and happiness have all been linked to the knowledge of how our bodies function. The highlight of this exhibition are the three anatomical sketches by Leonardo da Vinci from the Royal Collection, owned by Queen Elizabeth II. It was da Vinci who “went so far as to dissect human bodies in order to make more accurate depictions of them.” As new year’s is usually the time we make resolutions for better health, this exhibition will help us explore the human psyche when it comes to our own bodies and mortality.
