Saint Maur International School is the oldest international school in Japan, with a caring and leading curriculum taught within excellent, modern facilities. It was established in 1872, but still retains the pioneering spirit of ‘always answering a call’ in need. The school has a student body representing over 30 nationalities, as well as staff from over 15 countries. It continues to offer quality education within a caring family environment to students of all genders, nationalities, and religious denominations between the ages of 2.5 (pre-kindergarten) and 18+ (high school).
In 2007 Saint Maur also established a French section in response to community needs, and to support foreign businesses in Japan. “With Nissan and Renault having their full Japan operations in Yokohama, requests mounted from company employees to have a French education substitute in Japan. Hence, we have come to offer the French National Curriculum to children from grades one through five, expecting to expand following the needs. These students join other students in the international section for music, physical education and other after-school activities so they can acquire the sufficient level of English that is needed in the international section,” says a representative of the school.
Saint Maur is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), as well as the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Specific programs include a Montessori pre-school, Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, Pre-SAT and SAT testing, Trinity International Music Examinations, and many others.
