Nomu cafe in Aoyama, tucked inside a flower shop, is another of our favourite spots in Tokyo.
Aoyama is the place to go if you want to find stylish cafes and other haunts, and it has no shortage: Copenhagen-based designer flower shop Nicolai Bergmann is one of them, and it offers more than bouquets and blossom.
Tucked inside the shop is an exquisite café, featuring glass table tops, mossy walls and a large display of seasonal fruits. NOMU may be the best place to get a fruit smoothie in Tokyo, as I discovered after several months of research. They’re all more divine than the next, my favourites being Winter Escape (a mix of mango, coconut milk, banana, mint and honey), and Espresso Banana (has a shot of java for a quick spur).

Oatmeal cookies, brownies, fruit tarts and other freshly baked goods are the perfect companion for a late afternoon tea or coffee, and a selection of panini, salads and sandwiches make for a fairly hearty lunch.
NOMU serves the Danish specialty smorrebrod – literally ‘butter bread’ – a piece of dark rye bread topped with meat, fish or cheese, the selection of which varies from day to day so you can get the chance to try different items.
Aside from the smoothies, the organic furnishing and serene atmosphere is what keeps luring me back to this slice of heaven, whether it’s for a lazy lunch with friends or a few hours spent perusing their excellent magazine collection.
NOMU is also a great location for a Sunday brunch, and a fine place to unwind after a shopping spree on Omotesando. I also love taking out-of-town visitors there as it never fails to please everyone’s tastes.
