Earlier this month, Ootoya Gohan Dokoro, a restaurant chain that offers more traditional Japanese fare than your average famiresu, expanded their offering to include additional nutritious dishes, making eating healthy outside of the home just a little bit easier. These recipes are not only healthy, but flavorful and filling — and most importantly, very, very reasonably priced.
Although Ootoya already has an extensive menu with healthy homestyle dishes, the company is making a proactive effort to provide even more nutritious options, especially those with more vegetables. One of the new dishes is fried chicken breast with a spicy sauce and an ample helping of both cooked and fresh vegetables, coupled with rice, miso soup and pickles (¥889).
For those looking for a filling, veggie-based meal, the bamboo steamer-cooked vegetables with barley miso soup and sides (¥898) may be just the ticket.
The charcoal-grilled golden threadfin bream, marinated in salt koji and mirin (¥997), is a great mix of traditional Japanese fare with a healthy twist.
All prices listed are for set meals, which include sides of rice, miso soup and pickles. For those concerned about portion sizes or carb counts, all main meals are available to order separately without the side dishes at a discounted rate.
