Starting this month, chomping down on Kit Kats won’t just be delicious – it’ll also help to support typhoon victims.
On May 22, Nestle will launch a new flavor of its bite-sized Kit Kat brand, Big Little, called Iwaizumi Yoghurt. It’s named after Iwaizumi, a town in Iwate devastated by the August 2016 typhoon that hit large swathes of Tohoku and Hokkaido.
The typhoon caused major landslides in Iwaizumi, forcing factories in the area to cease production. That included Iwaizumi Milk Products Co. Ltd., who are famous for their Iwaizumi Yoghurt. Nestle worked with the dairy producer, which has been unable to operate for seven months, to make sure its Iwaizumi Yoghurt Big Littles contain the rich and slightly sour flavor for which the yoghurt is famous.
For every purchase of the Iwaizumi Yoghurt-flavored Kit Kats, the region will receive a ¥10 donation.
This isn’t the first time Kit Kat has been used to help disaster victims: other instances include the financial collapse of Yubari in 2007, the 2008 Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake, the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake.
Starting May 22, get ready to chomp down on Kit Kats for a good cause.
