Bringing Art to the Streets

Roppongi Art Night is returning for its 13th edition with the theme of “A Festival of City, Art, and Future.” Over 40 programs with 30 artist groups will be exhibiting their works across the Roppongi area with installations, performances, music, videos, talk programs and digital works to create intersections between diversity and creativity.

With the pandemic pushing lifestyle and societal changes, the art festival is experimenting with new concepts that promote sustainability and the continuation of the next generation.

The event will also debut some new initiatives. RAN Picks is a program where six groups of notable domestic and international artists are selected to exhibit their works. This year’s picks include Atelier Sisu, Jennifer Wen Ma, Kyota Takahashi, Pu Chen, Tsai & Yoshikawa and MaimageDance.

The RAN Focus will highlight specific countries or regions with active artists from that community. This year’s program will focus on artists from Taiwan. Artists include Pu Chen, Tsai & Yoshikawa, MaimageDance, Watermelon Sisters and Goang-Ming Yuan.

Roppongi Art Night is bringing art to the streets. Multi-area programs such as Kyota Takahashi’s Pongi Ring Parade of Light Flower will have a crowd of people illuminating the night with glowing flower-shaped innertube floats, parading from the National Art Center through Tokyo Midtown and into Roppongi Hills. Kentaro Sugi’s Flowers of Roppongi performance at the Hills Cafe expresses the nature of flowers amongst a chaotic crowd.

All of the initiative programs are free to attend. Note that specific programs and museum exhibitions may require a fee.
