Hibiya Art Park 2025

Tucked away just beyond the Imperial Palace, you will find Hibiya Park. The park will be transformed into a living, breathing Art installation for the next month. The public art exhibition has two phases.

Phase 1: Transformed Composition – Combine, Envision and Play

Phase one lasts from April 25 until May 11 and focuses on the concept of Mitate. Mitate means “to liken something to something else”, traditionally used in Japanese art to see an object or idea through the lens of something unrelated.

The centerpiece of phase one will be a giant jungle that appears at the center of the park. Sculptures by Hiroko Kubo and Keita Miyazaki will float on the nearby ponds.

Phase 2: “Play”ing Catch – A Rehearsal of Gathering

From May 17 the exhibition will shift to focus on performing arts. The programme includes outdoor screenings of the Osaka-based theatre company Ishinha, VR art which gives visitors the perspective of a butterfly, and communal fires in the evening.

Ishinha’s famous food stall village will be at the park all week, the first time it has been held in Tokyo in 16 years.
