The Edo Tokyo Rethink Exhibition organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) shows new perspectives on traditional crafts through a contemporary art lens. The event, directed by artist Noritaka Tatehana, will be held at the Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens, a registered Important Cultural Property.
The Edo Tokyo Kirari Project has shared the treasures of Tokyo by introducing brands that best represent “Old meets New.” These brands exemplify the traditional craftsmanship and beautiful designs of Edo-Tokyo, combined with new and inspired approaches for fulfilling the needs of contemporary lifestyles.
The exhibition will feature new pieces by Mr. Tatehana, combining the techniques of the Project’s model businesses with contemporary art. During the exhibition, workshops will also be held where visitors can experience the traditions of Edo-Tokyo.
