“Only in Japan” may be an overused phrase but in this case it is perfectly applicable.
TOTO, Japans largest toilet manufacturer have created a special “toilet-bike” ingeniously powered by, wait for it… bio-waste!
With a maximum speed of 70 – 80 kilometers per hour, this may be the fastest toilet in Japan.
Designers say the “Toilet Bike Neo” runs on biogas fuel made from fertilized, purified and compressed livestock waste and household wastewater, provided by Shika-oi Town in Hokkaido and Kobe city.
Toilet Bike Neo will run across Japan, starting from Kitakyushu-city (where TOTO is based) and is heading to Tokyo on November 2nd.
It will stop at TOTO showrooms and “toilet related places” before it gets to Tokyo.
The purpose of this campaign is to introduce the “TOTO green challenge”. At the same time, TOTO’s new TV commercial is now on airing across the country.
TOTO fans or bike nuts will be disappointed, as the company has no plans to put the unusual mode of transport into production.
A spokesperson for the company said “The toilet seat does not function as a toilet, and it does not have the mechanism to run on the rider’s waste.”
“We are not producing Toilet Bike Neo as our product,” TOTO said. “This is a promotion only for the Japan Market.”
