After a successful return to Tokyo in 2012, after almost a decade away, Rugby Sevens is back in town at the end of the month. This is no exhibition or friendly, the weekend forms round seven of the HSBC Sevens World Series 2012/13 and all the world’s top teams will be here.
It’s a fast paced day with plenty of short games to watch and a few events going on on the sidelines and you can be sure the beer will be flowing throughout the lively and ex-pat heavy crowd.
You’re going to be hearing more and more about the sport in the next few months, especially if Tokyo gets the Olympic Games; sevens will officially become an Olympic sport in Rio in 2016 and the IOC has given it until at least 2020 to make an impression. Add to that the fact that Japan will host the 2019 Rugby World Cup and we imagine we could be about to see a boom on its way…
Group ticketing options make for a good value experience – a non-reserved group adult ticket is just 4,950 and allows for entry on both days. On the Saturday there will be a women’s Sevens exhibition match.
