The smell of petrol and burning tyre rubber, the sound of super tuned porsche racing cars speeding by and even the chance to have a go at racing yourself – what a weekend in store!
If you have never had the chance to see live racing in Japan, then this is not to be missed. The Freescale One Make Festival will take place at the Fuji Speedway – in Shizuoka, take a look at the map, below – on Saturday and Sunday June 9 and 10, and you are invited.
Motor sport fans will know the track from its Formula One Grand Prix days and should look forward to this opportunity to get out of town and enjoy a weekend of racing in the shadow of Mount Fuji.

The highlights of the Freescale One Make Festival’s many races will be rounds four and five of the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan series.
The #90 OGT! Racing Porsche 911 racecar (pictured, above), leading the championship, secured a win in round one of the series at Okayama and is hoping for more champagne moments, like the one pictured here, that will take it towards the end of season trophy.
At the circuit there will be more than just professional drivers charging towards the trophy. The organizers hope that families and motorsport fans will all join the circuit’s other festivities.
If you fancy yourself as the next Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumacher, there will be go-karting to get you started, plus bus and car trips around the circuit itself to give you a closer taste of the chicanes and hairpins which have hosted many world class races over the years.
Motor sport is famed for the technical skill of its engineers as much as the drivers these days. Seminars led by drivers and experts will help you learn more about how these beasts are tuned and how R&D programs and other next-generation technologies are evolving. The organizers say this is likely to be the first event of its type, with such detailed engineer seminars at the race track – over a thousand engineers and over 800 family members are already registered to attend.

Getting there is easy – just take a train from Tokyo to Gotenba station, where you can take a bus or taxi. The track is just over an hours drive on the Tomei Highway.
