The Weekender countdown of the month’s hottest trending tracks to funk up your playlist.

The Japanese House – “Saw You In A Dream”

Our most played track this month. The Japanese House is young British solo artist Amber Bain, who produces her own music alongside The 1975’s George Daniel. Her recording name comes from a Cornwall property she frequented as a child with Japanese tea house furnishings inside. The music is dreamy and vocals powerful yet soft.

Bruno Mars versus David Guetta – “Versace On The Floor”

The track originally served as just a promo single late last year but finally gets the full single release it deserves. David Guetta funks up the slow R&B number giving it a Michael Jackson edge that’s dance floor friendly.

Twice – “Knock Knock”

You may have noticed these nine pretty girls plastered all over the outside of Tower Records Shibuya. They were formed by JPY Entertainment through a reality TV show in Korea and officially debuted in Japan in June with Japanese album #TWICE, which has already smashed records just a few weeks into release. ‘Knock Knock’ is one of the catchiest things we’ve heard in a long time.

Zendaya featuring Chris Brown – “Something New”

Queen of cool, Zendaya is fast surfacing to the A-List; her debut feature film comes in the shape of Spider-Man: Homecoming this summer. “Something New” is a taste of future music work to come from the actress. It is produced by Babyface and samples TLC’s “Creep”.

Lorde – “Supercut”

A standout number from latest album Melodrama, “Supercut” is a throwback to lost love with pulsing beats layered with Lorde’s whispery vocals. Try resisting a mini dance while listening to this in your metro seat.

Michelle Branch – “Hopeless Romantic”

The US singer-songwriter recently played Billboard Tokyo where she opened up about divorce and finding love again exclusively to Weekender pre-show. “Hopeless Romantic” details her journey. Liam Payne featuring Quavo – “Strip That Down”

The One-Directioners seem to all be out in full force solo-wise. Liam is one of the last to reveal his efforts and it’s not bad at all. Featuring rapper Quavo, this sexy hip-hop slash pop number is the lovechild of Justin Timberlake’s “Sexyback” and anything by Chris Brown.

Bjork – “Notget”

For those with a ticket to this year’s Fuji Rock, it’s time to get reacquainted with the quirky headliners impressive back catalogue. “Notget” is taken from Bjork’s eight studio album Vulnicura, and both song and video are wonderfully bonkers, as you’d expect.
