This June 14, a group of men and women will assemble at a Meiji-era bathhouse and dance, bathe and take in some projecting mapping – all in silence.
The event, called Dance Furoya (a very clever pun on “floor” and “furo,” or bath) is the brainchild of social festival company Ozone LLC, who reportedly have some experience putting on these silent festival events. They work thanks to interconnected wireless headphones: everyone listens to the same music, but to the outside observer, it look as if everyone’s magically dancing in step in silence.
The event takes place at public bathhouse Hinodeyu, a five-minute walk from Inaricho station, from 7 to 11, and in addition to the silent dance party, participants can actually take a dip in the Meiji-era baths and view some projection mapping.
Tickets are ¥3,000 in advance or ¥3,500 at the door and include headphone rental – towels need to be brought or rented.
