Following a star-studded premiere night in Tokyo, Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer of the live action version of “Ghost in the Shell,” starring Scarlett Johansson.
Johansson, co-star Kitano “Beat” Takeshi, and director Rupert Sanders were all present last night to speak about the film, which will hit screens in March 2017. The film has already gotten a great deal of attention, both for the reverence that hard-core fans have for the original material and the complaints of “whitewashing” in the decision to casting Johansson in the role of Motoko Kusanagi – in the film, her character’s name is simply “The Major.” We’ll have a more in-depth look at what the stars of the film had to say about the upcoming movie – and its critics – later this week, but for now, we’ll let you have a look at the first preview clip.
