Are you ready for another round of Tokyo’s glitziest event of the year? Join the swarm of models, fashionistas, fashion editors, paparazzi and designers as they flood the swanky boutiques of Omotesando on Septmeber 7th for Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out Tokyo.
The event was originally created by Vogue editor Anna Wintour to invigorate the industry and get people spending, and it seems to be working; Fashion’s Night Out has for many become the preferred occasion to pick up some limited-edition items. This year those will include T-shirts and bags designed by Japanese calligraphy master Souun Takeda, and the money spent on those reasonably priced items (¥2,500 for the tees, ¥1,000 for the tote bags) will go towards a good cause.
Although Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out may seem all glam and glitter, the event has charitable objectives: the money shoppers spend (and that will be a lot!) will go towards non-profit organizations supporting relief efforts in Tohoku and to Keyaki Funds, making a social contribution to Omotesando.
Over 450 shops are participating, spilling all the way out to Aoyama and Harajuku and each presenting different activities, promotions and freebies for visitors. Make a beeline to your favorite boutiques for celebrity appearances, limited-edition products and DJ performances – there’s even a stamp rally with prizes up for grabs.
This year’s ‘FNO Ambassador’ is model Ai Tominaga, who will give a greeting speech at the opening ceremony in Omotesando Hills, before swarms of fashionistas are set free into the adjacent streets to do some damage to their bank accounts. Arm yourself with some plastic, patience and we’d like to say comfortable shoes to run around in, but those would not be very “Vogue”…
