The Marc Jacobs label is about to crank the stylish factor up a notch this October with its brand new Bookmarc Tokyo store.

Watch out Daikanyama T-Site, there’s a new kid in town: if wearing the undeniably cool clothes from the Marc Jacobs collection is not enough already, you can now also write letters using logo-emblazoned stationery and get your literary fix from the designer. Although the BOOKMARC concept is already established in New York City (Bleecker street was the first to open one), LA, Paris and London, Tokyo is never one to be left out from special edition designer ventures.

The innovative designer is always ahead of the trends, first launching his infamous grunge collection back in the early nineties, then becoming the artistic director of French luxury brand Louis Vuitton, and now expanding to good old paperbacks, ink and pens.

BOOKMARC (note the witty spelling) is a stylish twist on a bookstore, mainly featuring art, fashion, photography and music books alongside an exquisite line of Marc Jacobs stationery, pencil cases and colored pencils, which should be in high demand in the Japanese capital, where handwritten notes and letters seem to prevail. A-list celebrities such as Kate Moss, Pharell Williams, The Kills and Beck have previously chosen BOOKMARC stores as the venue to release their books, and live acts have been known to perform in the shops – no word yet on whether Tokyo will get the same treatment…

The sleek new Harajuku building is conceived by Jaklitsch/Gardner Architects, and in addition to hosting the bookstore, it will also be home to the first Marc by Marc Jacbobs menswear store in Tokyo. We’re curious to see how it will compare to art and fashion book Mecca Daikanyama T-Site has already become.

Stay tuned for more information on the BOOKMARC Tokyo store when we get it.
