Hiroaki Umeda’s breakout performance of “while going to a condition” was described by Anita Mathieu, director of the Rencontres Choregraphiques Internationales festival as the “discovery of a young artist, both original and promising”. Almost decade later, Umeda has just gotten better, performing in venues across the world such as London’s Barbican Centre and Paris’ Centre Pompidou, as well as stages in Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Italy and Japan. A multidisciplinary artist whose work blurs the boundaries between dance, installation art and multimedia projections, Umeda’s latest work, “Holistic Strata” continues his use of digital media in physical performances. The performance’s use of light and sound blends seamlessly into his manipulation of the air around him, and all combines to produce an immersive, sensual experience.
