Manga-inspired illustrations and caricatures, by a Thai artist.
Wisut Ponnimit debuted with his first manga work in Thailand in 1998. After studying in Japan in 2003, he published work here, titled “Blanco” and ”Mamuang”. After gaining recognition for his surreal “hesheit” series, which was heavily influenced by 1970s manga, he eventually moved to Kobe to get closer to the source of his inspiration. He won a prize for that work in the Manga Division of the Japan Media Art Festival in 2009.
Although he currently lives in Bangkok, he’s well-known amongst comic and animation aficionados on our side of the world. His alluring and simple drawing style captured the attention of Japanese fans, and it’s not the first time he has displayed his work in Shibuya.
He’s also collaborated with S&O shop in Omotesando Hills, which feature his drawings on items such as candles and badges.
You can view more of his art on his official website, and a fun series of animated shorts he created for Audiotechnica.
