Go With Cats, or 222 ways to see the furry feline.
Cats are what’s happening lately – in other words, cats have really become… the cat’s meow. More cat GIFs and YouTube videos are being watched than anything else, it seems, and of course here in Japan entire cafes are dedicated to them. To top it all off, you can now view an art exhibit all about the well-loved (by those who don’t want to skin them due to allergies) creatures, with a collection by wildlife photographer Iwago Mitsuaki.
The reknowned artist’s work has been featured not once, but twice on the cover of National Geographic magazine, making him the first Japanese photographer to obtain such an honour. He’s been a prominent figure in capturing scenes of the nature through the lens, following the footsteps of his father, who was also a noted wildlife photographer.
This time around, he’s focusing on pets, cats taking the centre stage in this exhibition called “Go With Cats”, which occurs simultaneously with the release of his cat-themed photo book. You can catch a glimpse at cats from all over the globe, including the artist’s own furry friend. Iwago Mitsuaki will be present for some book signing sessions, so head there on June 1,2,8, or 9 to meet the man behind the lens.
