Ukiyo-e: Floating World from the Saito Collection

You can’t have escaped the Great Wave Off Kanagawa (depicted above) or indeed many other famous ukiyo-e prints and their reproductions in Japan, but this exhibition hopes to take you closer and give you a bit more history.

The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, in Marunouchi district, will present a special ukiyo-e exhibition with a collection of 600 prints displayed in a three-part series throughout the summer. The first part (June 22-July 15) will cover the late 18th century, the second part (July 17-August 11) will move to a print series of Hokusai, Hiroshige and a few others, and the last part (August 13- September 8) will conclude with late Edo and early Meiji era pieces. The block prints were mostly produced between the 17th and 20th century, in the Edo and Meiji periods.
