Great French Paintings from the Clark is an outstanding selection of French paintings, in Tokyo via North America.
The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute is known for its intimate galleries and stunning natural environment of its surroundings in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Over the years since its inauguration in 1955, it has grown to be one of the most beloved and respected art museums in the world. Not only does it host a stunning collection of French paintings, but it’s now also a leading international center for research and discussion on the nature of art and art history. A favourite of academics, the museum combines a public art museum with a complement of research programs, including a major art history library.
Interestingly, the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute is now undergoing renovations, and the construction of a new facility designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. During that time when the museum offers limited space to visitors, they’ve decided to organize its first-ever international traveling exhibition, to share the French paintings with the rest of the world.
Until the end of May, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum – across the road from the new Tokyo Station building – is presenting Japan’s first exhibition from the renowned collection, featuring 73 French paintings. Expect Corot, Millet, Manet, Pissarro, Monet, and 22 works by Renoir. A real treasure chest of art that will please the eye of art lovers, an exhibition not to be missed.
