Whether you’re only visiting Japan or call this country your home, how often have you/do you take the opportunity to try first hand traditional aspects of the culture?
Have you ever tried on a kimono, or learned the art of calligraphy? Do you know what a monkirigata is? Living in Japan, we sometimes take those cultural activities for granted, thinking we can try them anytime – but actually never get around to doing so. Japanese hobbies can sometimes be costly or intimidating to try, but we were delighted to find out Cafe Seek is offering a taste of those for free, and with no reservation required.
You can try your hand at calligraphy, learn how to write your name in kanji, strut around in a kimono, or make a monkirigata ornament, which is a traditional Japanese paper-cutting craft. You can just drop by and ask the friendly, English-speaking staff to assist you and experience Japanese culture firsthand.
If you’re not familiar with Cafe Seek, it’s worth checking out: they offer year-round access to free PC and Wi-Fi services, as well as to a small art gallery, a library of tourism literature in English and other services designed to assists overseas visitors to Japan. They host a variety of events, such as sake tastings and Maiko talks, so check the calendar to add some interesting diversions to your routine.
