Hiromart is a small art gallery, but one which always presents very interesting, up-and-coming artists from around the globe.
The gallery’s November schedule will bring the works of Ki Yoon Ko, an American currently living and working in Hamburg. His artworks have been exhibited in both solo and group shows, and displayed in Art Fairs throughout Europe, the United States and Asia.
Ki Yoon Ko is known for photorealistic paintings and he has a unique technique: using a brush and graphite powder, he flicks the powder onto the canvas layer by layer without actually touching the canvas. In 2011, he started a new series of paintings and was well received at a solo show in Raum 21 gallery in Hamburg.
The work he will exhibit for Hiromart is an entirely new series titled Prism: “The main point of this series is that I play with lines in the forms of triangle, square, circles… and many, many colors. I really want to explore what shapes I can come up with. Most of the images will include animals, object and human figures”, the artist explains.
Ki Yoon Ko studied Painting at the San Francisco Art Institute, Illustration at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and Painting & Printmaking at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He spent the first seven years of his life in South Korea before moving to North America for the next 24 and finally ending up in Germany.
