The latest Tokyo event/venue trend seems to be anything “pop-up”: shops, beauty counters, museums, coffee and food stands, to name but a few – even Starbucks got its own pop up museum. Pop up means quick, unexpected and for a limited duration, making it all seem the more exciting and exclusive.

In a race to catch up on all the pop-up events happening all over the city, we stumbled upon “Five artists five days”, a pop-up exhibition featuring photography from different corners of the world. As the title of the exhibition states, five artists will be presented: Makoto Hirano (Japan), Lyn & Tony (Australia), Luca Di Filippo (Italy), Caroline Fraser (Scotland) and Viveca Koh (Great Britain).

All the photographic artwork has very a distinctive style, as each artist’s background is reflected through their lens.

This five-day only exhibit is presented by Subject Matter, which offer photographic art from upcoming, established and award winning artists from around the world. The company has its headquarters in Tokyo, a pop-up gallery in Tokyo and a branch office in Montreal, Canada. Their philosophy prides itself on offering art that is affordable, authentic and accessible, as art is too often branded as a luxury item, and purchasing it considered a highbrow activity reserved for an elite minority.

Neatly in tune with this idea of accessibility, the exhibition will focus on up-and-coming talent, and we highly recommend dropping by the gallery to take a peek.
