CWAJ
The College Women’s Association of Japan (CWAJ) is a non-profit volunteer organization of women committed to education and cross-cultural exchange. Founded in 1949 by a small group of six women to help Japanese students study abroad, it has grown into a multinational organization of 500 members from 30 countries. CWAJ is celebrating it’s 60th Anniversary this year.
For 54 years, the annual CWAJ Print Show has been a major fundraiser for our continuing Scholarship and Education programs. Every year about 12 promising young scholars, both Japanese and non-Japanese as well as visually impaired students, are recipients of our highly competitive scholarships. To celebrate the 50th Print Show in 2005 CWAJ established the Young Printmaker Award (YPA) to encourage young artists and to promote the further development of HANGA.
Since 1972 CWAJ has provided regular scholarships to more than 360 recipients. Including all travel grants, art awards and special grants, CWAJ has supported more than 800 women and men over the years, an amazing total amount of 700 million yen.
CWAJ Print Show has also been recognized as an international forum of contemporary Japanese print art, featuring a diversity of techniques and styles by established and emerging artist.
