For the 10th year running, Tokyo’s Haneda Airport will ring in the new year with its Haneda Edo Tsubasa Matsuri festival.
The theme of the festival is the Edo period (1603-1868) and this year, the event focuses on the fifth Shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, as well as other famous historical figures from the period. Tokugawa Tsunayoshi is perhaps best known best for his laws which prohibited the killing of animals, especially dogs. That makes him the perfect symbol for 2018, the Year of the Dog.
From January 1 to 3, the festival will feature a variety of traditional new year events such as a rice cake pounding festival, fortune slip drawing, a dance, and much more. This new year, travel back in time to the Edo period and enjoy the celebration at Haneda Airport.
