More than a few Tokyo dwellers make the holidays a chance to travel to the ancient capital of Kyoto. If you’re among them, make sure to swing by JR Kyoto Isetan and check out some traditional lanterns that have been given an African twist.
Isetan will display the lanterns decorated with African textile pattern visual until December 25.
The African textiles were provided by Netherlands-based Vlisco, a company with a history of more than 100 years producing African wax prints. Their fabrics contain the creativity, energy and complex craftsmanship of various regions in Africa.
The event also includes special shopping bags that fold into unique shapes. The bags even come with their own hashtag, #oruorubag.
At this holiday event in Kyoto, Japan meets Africa in a unique international collaboration.
