Nothing compares to the feeling of truly losing yourself in a great book.
Located one minute from Ikebukuro station with easy access to the city’s various offerings, Book and Bed Tokyo is a book lover’s dream.
First launching its Ikebukuro branch in November of last year, the hostel, which is often described as “a sleepover bookstore,” is finding great success as it gathers attention from major media outlets even outside of Japan, such as CNN, The Huffington Post, and The Guardian. Quick to respond, the hostel/bookstore is coming back bigger and better with both the re-opening of the new and improved Ikebukuro location January 21 and the opening of a second branch in Kyoto this December.
The hostel, committed to providing its guests both the pleasurable experience of dozing off to a great book and a comfortable Tokyo stay, offers two choices of bedding: either typical hostel bunk beds or beds literally built in bookshelves. Both are surrounded by hundreds of books, varying from Japanese novels to English guide books to help you get around the area. Prices differ by bed size, but are all within the reasonable range of ¥4,500 to 5,500 per night.
Like any other good hostel, Book and Bed Tokyo also has a great bar to grab a drink and unwind with a book. From 1-5pm, the hostel also opens its doors to visitors simply wanting to pop in for a drink and a quick read. Daytime users can use the hostel for 500 yen (plus tax) for half an hour or 1,500 yen (plus tax) for the whole day. As spaces are limited, we recommend checking their daytime Twitter account in advance (Japanese only).
Created by modern design studios and brands, such as Suppose Design Office, Shibuya Publishing & Booksellers, Soda Design, and R-STORE, the facility is the perfect combination of a chic and stylish hostel and a cozy bookstore that allows guests to lose themselves in the wonders of a good book.
