One of Tokyo’s most famous flag-bearers for the house and techno scene, Daikanyama’s Air, will close at the end of this year.
The club recently posted an announcement on their site confirming that their New Year’s party on December 31 will be their final event. The short announcement hasn’t alluded to the reasons for the sudden closure, but one thing is for sure – clubbers from around the city will surely miss this dance music institution that’s been hosting consistently quality parties for the last 14 years.
An excerpt from the brief official statement reads as follows:
“It has been decided that AIR will see its final party on New Year’s Eve.
From all of the staff at AIR, thank you so much for your support over the years.
We will endeavor to bring you the best parties right up until we close.
We look forward to being able to dance with you all again in a new space some day.
We’ll Dance Together in the Future!”
The news has been met with sadness and nostalgia by a range of music industry identities including house music legend and Defected Records boss Simon Dunmore, UK DJ Ben UFO, Brooklyn-based hip-hop producer DJ Spinna and Red Bull Music Academy.
For those wanting to dance the night away a last couple of times, be sure to get along to their Halloween party featuring Takkyu Ishino (Denki Groove) on Saturday, October 31.
